Teenage Myopia

A new patient, Clara (named changed for privacy concerns), is a 13-year-old starting 8th grade at a Chandler, Arizona middle school, who began myopia treatment with Paragon CRT lenses. She was initially introduced to the program two years ago, but her mother felt she wasn’t ready at that time. With a pre-treatment prescription of -2.75 in the right eye and -2.50 in the left eye, Clara is now on her 6th day post initial treatment. During her recent eye exam, Clara measured at 20/20 in her right eye and 20/30 in her left eye without any corrective lenses.

Being right-handed, Clara struggles a bit more with inserting and removing the left lens, leading to occasional poor insertion which can affect the next day’s results. Despite this challenge, she exudes positivity and excitement about her new look with braces before school starts. An avid reader like one of her brothers whose prescription is beyond -6.00, Clara’s journey towards clearer vision shows promising progress in managing her myopia effectively through treatment with Paragon CRT lenses.

Overall, Clara’s commitment to following the prescribed treatment plan and adjustments as needed reflects positively on her potential for successful myopia management as she continues with the program.

Clara’s myopia treatment is showing promising progress with both eyes maintaining 20/20 vision. She reports being pleased with her vision throughout the day. The topographies indicate a gradual filling out of a circular red pattern as the treatment advances. Clara mentions that it takes around 5 minutes to insert the lenses, slightly longer for the left eye. Occasionally, she has trouble handling the left lens, which can fall off her finger onto a mirror. During an in-office demonstration, Clara successfully inserted the lenses on her first attempt for each eye. Her overall progress is positive, and we plan to schedule a follow-up evaluation in 2 months to monitor further advancements.

Clara diagnosed with myopia returned for a follow-up appointment after a month of using her new contact lenses. She reported no symptoms such as headaches, dryness, or blur and was achieving 20/15 vision in each eye. The right lens was designed in green, and the left lens in blue for easy identification. The letters R and L were incorporated into the colors to signify right and left eyes respectively.

The patient follows a Clear Care system with saline rinse, avoiding tap water due to impurities. Her next scheduled visit is in three months for a six-month check-up in December. During this appointment, we will conduct deep cleaning of her lenses to maintain optimal condition by checking for scratches, warpage, and debris build-up. This proactive approach ensures the efficacy of her myopia treatment routine.

There are multiple ways to treat myopia in children that abate the deterioration of the child’s eye sight. With a complete exam and medical history we can recommend the appropriate treatment.
